Site design for a property in Clayton, in the Thousand Islands New York.
The existing property sits on the St. Lawrence River in the Thousand Islands. The house is being totally rebuilt which gives us an opportunity to design a site master plan for the entire property. We have designed large outdoor paved areas for dining and entertaining. Planting wraps around the house and our choices focus on the summer-fall months when our clients are at the river. Large planters on the terrace will be dramatically planted out in tropical and summer annuals with an emphasis on color and scent.

Over the years many changes and additions have been added to this historic property. Our role was to produce a site master plan to seamlessly connect all the areas of this very steep site. Our first priority was to redesign the grading of the site so that the existing historic ‘Skiff House’ is lifted up from its original position and placed more than 10ft higher to avoid flooding. Another benefit of moving the Skiff house to the side is that it provides an uninterrupted view of the river from the main great room, in addition to removing the roof of the boat house making it into a flat entertaining roof garden.
